Welcome!
The Institute of Responsible Innovation, Sustainability and Energy (RISE-HSG) was created in 2026, bringing together the expertise of two institutes of the University of St. Gallen: the Institute for Economy and the Environment (IWÖ-HSG, founded by Prof. Dr. Thomas Dyllick and Prof. Dr. Hans-Christoph Binswanger in 1992) and the Institute of Responsible Innovation (IRI-HSG, founded by Prof. Dr. Vivianna Fang He and Prof. Dr. Charlotta Siren in 2023).
Our mission is to find innovative and entrepreneurial solutions to key sustainability challenges like climate change and biodiversity loss through rigorous research, education, and societal engagement.
We actively create scientific knowledge, engage with companies, civil society organisations, policy makers and the general public, and shape responsible leaders and organisations of today and tomorrow. Our Institute is also at the forefront of developing impactful curricula on topics like integrative sustainability management, managing climate solutions and renewable energy management, at undergraduate, postgraduate and executive education levels.
Through our academic work, we seek to contribute to a world that understands and appreciates the embeddedness of business in society and the natural environment.
